South Korea-based Samsung, multinational electronics conglomerate, has reportedly agreed to a personal data leak of around 150 users. Samsung Galaxy smartphone users across the world received a suspicious notification on the ‘Find My Mobile’ App. The notification only read the number ‘1’ and Samsung responded saying it was an internal test and would not have any effect on devices.
However, now Samsung confirms that due to another glitch that happened at the same time as the notification, there has been a security breach. Around 150 users were able to access information about the other Samsung users. They could see information such as name, address, digits of payment cards, etc.
In Samsung’s statement, they have specified that both the glitches were not related despite occurring around the same time. The leak was unintentional and happened due to a technical error on the UK website of Samsung. The company has said that the data compromised is only of a few users.
The ‘Find My Mobile’ application is a stock app on all Samsung devices. It can be disabled but it cannot be deleted.
