India will be one of its important data centres: Microsoft

Bhaskar Pramanik, the country head of Microsoft, on Wednesday said India would be one of the important data centres of the company in the days to come.

Addressing the second Microsoft Azure conference in Pune, he talked about the cloud platform and said it had changed the company’s business model. “A year back, we had 12 data centres. (Now), 19 new data centres will be operational soon, which includes some centres in India,” he said, adding that Pune would be one of the hosts.

Azure, he said, had the capability to increase the productivity of companies and business. “New applications like hospital billing, interactive web-based applications are increasingly getting on to the cloud platform” he said.

Speaking at the conference, Apurva Chandra, Principal Secretary, Industries, Government of Maharashtra, said the state wished to collaborate with Microsoft for rolling out its technology-based services. “We will be looking to use the company’s cloud services for digitalisation of records,” he said.
