IBM tops India’s Non-x86 UNIX server market in revenue terms for Q1 2012

Based on the IDC Asia/Pacific Quarterly Enterprise Server Tracker (Q1 2012), IBM has announced that it emerged No. 1 in the Indian Non-x86 UNIX server market in terms of factory revenues for Q1 2012. It gained 8.9 share points YTY, ending at 51% market share in factory revenue terms for the quarter.

“POWER 7 servers are addressing not only large mission-critical banking and telecom solutions but also offering TCO savings for SMB and mid-market clients. We continue to focus on growth programs for our Business Partners and ISVs, specifically targeting the SMB segment for Power 7,” said Viswanath Ramaswamy, Country Leader- Power Systems, Systems and Technology Group, IBM India South Asia.

As per the IDC Asia/Pacific Quarterly Disk Storage Tracker (Q1 2012), IBM’s market share in the external disk storage segment in Q1 2012 stood at 22.1%, building on its full year 2011 momentum. There was also a strong upswing for Storwize V7000 which grew by 40% year over year during the quarter.

“Indian companies are increasingly virtualizing their storage. Utility based models are making way for Storage-as-a-Service. Capabilities such as compression and de-duplication are helping organizations remain competitive and cost effective. Today, the IBM SmarterStorage is uniquely positioned to deliver on all these key demands, thus enabling organizations reap a better ROI,” said Subroto Das, Vice President – Storage Business, IBM India South Asia.

In the overall server market, IBM captured 31.5% market share in terms of factory revenues and grew by 2.6% year-to-year. The overall server market in India de-grew 8.7% year-to-year in terms of factory revenue during Q1.

In the x86 server market, IBM had a 24.8% revenue market share during Q1 2012. The overall x86 server market de-grew 3.3% year-on-year in terms of factory revenue in India.

In the x86 Blade server market that grew 5.33% year-to-year in terms of factory revenue, IBM captured 34.23% market share and grew by 13% YTY in Q1 2012.
