Oulgaret Municipality in the Union Territory of Puducherry has been included in the Urban Development Ministry’s list of 98 select cities and towns for development as Smart Cities, a release from Town and Country Planning Department said.
It said the administration had nominated the municipality for development as smart city under the Centre’s flagship programme of Smart Cities Mission launched on June 25 this year.

The selected city should prepare a ‘city level smart city plan’ which would be evaluated in the second stage of competition, the release said, adding that the administration had already appointed a consultant from the panel provided by the Urban Development Ministry to prepare the smart city plan.
Oulgaret municipality has a population of a little more than three lakh.
