As many as 1,200 children studying in five municipal schools in South Mumbai will experience the joy of technology with a new course called Bhavishya Yaan, introduced into their curriculum by an NGO.

The course will simply comprise IPad learning, which otherwise is an inaccessible commodity for the municipal school going students.

Shailesh Haribhakti, chairman of Desai Haribhakti under which the Rotary program is running, said, “We officially launched the e-learning module on Saturday. The module is meant to engage them in using technology, apart from learning to read and speak in English.”

Currently, a budget allocation of Rs 1 crore has been provided for the program. Of the 300 members registered with Rotary in the city, a 40 member team will visit the five schools to teach the children, from class eighth to tenth, about the method of operating IPads.

A provision for a separate classroom has also been made for this module.

“The students will be provided the iPads only during school hours. We also plan to teach them subjects like mathematics and computers through the device,” added Haribhakti.
