Custom applications that were created years ago often represent heavy support burdens for IT staff —a problem that is compounded by a diminishing pool of personnel skilled in the application’s specific architecture and infrastructure. By moving to a public cloud service, organizations have the potential to reduce complexity, pare back the number of vendor services and contracts that must be managed, and gain a performance advantage, especially as they grow in the number of users and workloads supported by the application. Furthermore, many on-premises datacenters contain aging servers and bandwidth-constrained network infrastructure and constantly need more storage space. The datacenter facility itself may be reaching maximum capacity or may be unable to meet the regulatory compliance needs of a multinational business.
