Taiwan-based semiconductor distributor WPG Holdings said it is looking at a 10-fold jump in its revenue from India to USD 2 billion by 2020, driven by strong demand for electronics products like smartphones.
The company reported global turnover of USD 14 billon (450 billion New Taiwan Dollars) in 2014, and India business contributed about USD 200 million.
“India is an important market and is witnessing strong demand and growth, especially in smartphones and computing space. By 2020, we expect India to contribute about USD 2 billion to our global revenues,” WPG C&C Computers and Peripheral India President Rajeev Bajpai told reporters.
He added that India business is expected to account for about 10 per cent of the global revenue by 2020.
The company today announced its partnership with chip maker Intel and software giant Microsoft to launch portable CPU — NuPC.
The device will be powered by Intel Core i3/Celeron processors and will support Windows 8.1 operating system.
The range will be priced Rs 16,000 onwards depending on the configuration, Bajpai said.
“The devices will be sold through channel partners. We expect to sell about 1.5 lakh units by March 2016. The NuPC is an energy efficient, fully functional PC that not only fulfills the performance needs of the consumers but also fits into the palm of your hand,” he said.
It will suit the needs of home users as well as enterprises since it has low power consumption and requires small space, Bajpai added.
Based on Intel Next Unit of Computing (NUC) design, the device has been used in kiosks and digital signage displays globally.
“The launch of the NuPC marks an important milestone in working towards the government’s ‘Make in India’ vision… We will continue to work with local OEMs, ODMs and the ecosystem to bring relevant technology to the market across price points and innovative form factors,” Intel South Asia Director Sales Rajiv Bhalla said.
