Ahead of the December 27 soft launch of its mobile for its employees, Reliance Industries’ subsidiary Reliance Jio Infocomm has rolled out high-speed Wi-fi services for consumers in 160 locations across the country.
Reliance Jio started rolling out its Wi-fi services, called Jionet, from Jammu on December 20., according to a company statement. The services are also currently available at centres including Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Surat, Kolkata, Lucknow, Bhubaneswar, Mussoorie and Indore.
“The services will be complimentary before commercial launch,” according to an official with direct knowledge of the development.
The Wi-fi services will also be offered at other locations for consumers to use and test the high-speed network which offers internet speed between 10 megabits per second and 40 Mbps, the official said.
A smartphone user who wishes to use Jionet services will have to switch on the Wi-fi network on the handset and select the Jionet network. Once connected, the user will be directed to its log-in page to sign in with mobile number, to which a verification code would be sent for accessing the network.
Alternatively, the user can also type “jionet.jio.in” in his browser to sign in.
The access will be allowed for 24 hours and the system will log out the user if there is no activity for 30 minutes or more. The user can again use the same code to sign in within the 24-hour access period, or request for a new code if it is more than 24 hours of receiving the earlier code.
