IBM tops India’s storage, non-x86 UNIX servers market

IBM announced that it emerged No. 1 in the Indian storage and non-x86 UNIX server market in terms of factory revenues for CY 2011.

IBM was also ranked at No. 1 in the overall server market in Q4 2011, with a market share of 32.8% in terms of factory revenues. For CY 2011, IBM captured 29.4% market share in terms of factory revenues. The overall server market in India grew 4.7% year-to-year in terms of factory revenue in 2011.

IBM maintained its market leadership of the overall disk storage (includes internal and external disk storage) market in 2011 with 28.3% market share. IBM’s biggest share gain came from the mid-range disk storage segment, which is one of the largest segments within the overall external disk storage market.

“We will expand the reach and availability of our storage offerings by engaging closely with our business partners. IBM’s top position in the non-x86 UNIX market can be attributed to the strong uptake of our Power7 servers,” said Subroto Das, Vice President – Storage, Systems and Technology Group, IBM India South Asia.

During the same period, IBM continued to lead in the Non-x86 UNIX Server market in the CY 2011, gaining 5.1 share points YOY, ending at 40.6% market share in factory revenue terms for CY 2011.

“We are now focusing on new initiatives and growth programs for our Business Partners and ISVs, specifically targeting the SMB and mid market segment for Power 7,” said Viswanath Ramaswamy, Vice President- Power Systems, Systems and Technology Group, IBM India South Asia.

Some of the client wins for IBM in 2011 included the HDFC Bank, Daawat Foods, Escorts, Manikchand and The Federal Bank among others.

For the fourth quarter (October to December 2011), IBM remained No.1 both for overall storage and the Non-x86 server market in terms of factory revenue, with a market share of 30.1% and 48.6%.
