Terming as “very positive” the various digitisation projects launched by government in the past one year, a top Indian business executive has said that these ambitious campaigns underscore the impact of technology in enabling India to make progress and bring its citizens together.
WNS Global Services Group CEO Keshav Murugesh said digitisation campaigns such as Digital India, Make in India, creating smart cities and other digitisation projects initiated by the Indian government in the past one year have been made for the betterment of India.
“These are very very positive changes and positive announcements that have been made for the betterment of India in the long term,” Murugesh told.
He said it was a “very positive” development that from the time the NDA government came to power, it has focused a lot on some of the new digital India initiatives, including spreading broadband connectivity, encouraging start-ups and removing tax hurdles.
“This shows that the government has understood the impact of technology in terms of enabling India to make progress and binding the citizens of India together,” Murugesh said.
Chennai-born 51-year-old Murugesh was here to ring the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange on July 20.
He said as more announcements are made and there is clarity in terms of the procurement process and budgets of the ambitious government campaigns, WNS will be right in “front and centre of it.”
“India itself as a market has huge opportunity from an IT and Business Process Management (BPM) point of view and over the next few years we have to leverage that,” he said.
Murugesh, who is also Chairman of NASSCOM’s BPM Council, said WNS has been at the forefront of many of the initiatives announced by the Indian government.
He stressed that NASSCOM’s BPM Council has been coming up and sharing with the government a lot of ideas related to its digitisation initiatives.
He pointed out that one initiative NASSCOM is focusing on and which is lead by WNS is the Innovate for India challenge.
“That programme will be driven and curated by NASSCOM and its members and WNS has a very strong role in driving the initiative,” Murugesh said, adding that the companies that will benefit the most from the various e governance projects will traditionally be the BPM companies.
WNS Global is a global business process management company headquartered in Mumbai.
