The Centre has asked ministries under it to ensure that all employees’ Aadhaar numbers are recorded in their service books.
“Instructions have already been issued to ensure inclusion of Aadhaar numbers of employees’ in their service books. An action taken report has been sought from the ministries in this regard,” a senior official in Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) said.
An employee’s service book at present contains his or her bio-data, posting and security details, qualifying service, House Building Advance, Central Government Health Scheme, Central Government Employees Group Insurance Scheme, Leave Travel Concession, etc.
All central government ministries or departments were in November last year asked to ensure that the service books of all employees have an entry of the employees’ Aadhaar number, he said.
Aadhaar, which is a 12 digit individual identification number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India, serves as a proof of identity and address, anywhere in the country.
