eGovWatch: UIDAI generates 81.78 crore Aadhaar numbers

Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has generate as many as 81.78 crore Aadhaar number, covering 67 per cent of the population in the country, Parliament was informed today.

The total number of Aadhaar numbers generated by UIDAI stood at 81.78 crore as on April 20, Planning Minister Rao Inderjit Singh said in written reply to a Lok Sabha question.

Taking into account India’s population at 121 crore as per Census 2011, the UIDAI has generated Aadhaar number for over 67 per cent residents in the country.

The maximum number of Aadhaar numbers was generated in Uttar Pradesh at 10.48 crore, as compared to a population of 19.95 crore in the state.

In Maharashtra, UIDAI has generated 9.19 crore Aadhaar numbers as compared to a population of 11.23 crore. Similarly, it has generated 6.12 crore Aadhaar number in West Bengal (population of 9.13 crore).

At present 84.9 per cent of the Aadhaar numbers are of those residents whose age is either 18 years or above.

The minister further said that in 14 States/UTs, the percentage of Aadhaar generation of adult residents (18 years & above) is more than 100 per cent of the adult population figures as per Census 2011. The current population would be higher than the Census figures.
